This week, we jump into the world of the vintage models that came before the iconic watches we know today. Some have the same cases and dials with one simple difference: the famous names we know today were not printed on the dials. Others, however, are notably different perfect Rolex replica watches that preceded the famous Rolex icons that would follow. It’s time to discover more about these Rolex “pre-icon” models.

Before we get into our list, it’s important to clarify that some of the watches featured here are indeed considered part of the lineage of Rolex’s most famous watches. The next watch is my favorite one on this list. It’s even one of my top three vintage Rolex replica watches store overall, sitting alongside the Explorer II ref. 1655 and the GMT-Master ref. 1675. Two years ago, I wrote a love letter about the Rolex Chronograph ref. 6238 “Pre-Daytona.” In it, I detailed why I love the watch so much. The style, the legendary movement, and the different versions Rolex produced make for a brilliant watch. On top of that, it’s the only watch on this list that strictly qualifies as a pre-icon because it was the predecessor of the iconic Daytona.

Having said that, there was an overlap in production with the Daytona, which debuted in 1963. However, there is a clear reason people refer to it as the “Pre-Daytona.” Simply, it bridged the gap in style between the old-school Rolex chronographs from the 1950s and the more modern style of the Daytona. The ref. 6238 had a 36mm case with a smooth bezel and the tachymeter scale printed on the dial.

Over the six years that the 6238 was in production, Rolex supposedly made 3,500 pieces in stainless steel. Additionally, the brand produced a small number in yellow gold and rose gold. Where it gets a little more complicated is the number of dial variations. Rolex released no fewer than 14 executions. The steel models came with silver, gray, and black dials, each with a distinct vibe. My favorites are the gray- and black-dial versions, but they are also the hardest to find. The silver-dial version is by far the easiest to track down.

Rolex first equipped these best quality fake Rolex watches with the legendary Valjoux 72. Later versions, however, housed the updated Valjoux 722. The iconic chronograph movement also powered the famous Daytona that followed and chronographs from Breitling, Heuer, Longines, Gallet, and Universal Genève.

If you ask me, this is the best chronograph that Rolex ever created. While it is nicknamed the “Pre-Daytona,” I prefer it over any vintage Daytona. Regarding asking prices, expect them to start at €35K and increase to €200K for a steel version with a black dial or one of the gold models. It’s a lot of money, but that will get you a legendary watch.

Talk about legendary watches! Our last pick is the first-generation China replica Rolex Daytona ref. 6239 watches that followed the “Pre-Daytona” I just talked about. However, that partnership only started after the introduction of the ref. 6239.

The watch featured a 37mm stainless steel case with a steel tachymeter bezel and pump-style pushers. Rolex introduced the watch with a black dial with silver sub-dials, a white dial with black sub-dials, and a silver dial with black sub-dials. Early versions of these, of course, lacked the “Daytona” text. To be perfectly honest, I always thought placing the model name above the register at 6 o’clock was not the best choice.

Proof of that came in the form of dials that have “Daytona” on the upper half, underneath “Cosmograph.” Dials without “Daytona” on them look super clean, and they nicely link the watch to the Pre-Daytona ref. 6238.

A legend for a reason

Inside the case, you will find the Valjoux caliber 722. This manual-winding column-wheel chronograph operated at 18,000vph and had 17 jewels and a 48-hour power reserve. As mentioned, it is a legendary movement found in many cult-classic fake Rolex watches for sale. But to a more general audience, it is the famous caliber that powered the manual-winding Daytonas.

The first-generation Daytona is one of the industry’s icons, and you will see that reflected in the prices. As you would expect, the non-Exotic-dial versions are more “affordable,” with asking prices ranging between roughly €50K and €125K. That price range will hold versions with and without “Daytona” on the dial. I prefer these or, even better, one with the “Daytona” text on the upper half of the dial.

With Watches and Wonders as well as the spring auction season behind us, the watch market is calm and steady. And, generally speaking, 2024 is turning out to be a relatively stable year for perfect UK Rolex replica watches. Prices are down, and supply is up—and that spells “buyer’s market.” This is especially true of pre-owned Rolex.

As collectors, the problem with market-wide predictions and recommendations—and even simple observations—is that individual brands, models and even specific references can be moving in directions at odds with the general market. In May this year I noted that pre-owned Cartier and Breitling had dropped in value during Q1, and yet the Cartier Panthère rose 19.51 percent, while the Breitling Navitimer went up 18 percent. So, when people ask if it’s a good time to buy a watch, I always answer, “Depends on which watch.” We offer this caveat for Rolex, as well, and will use data to home in on the good deals.

Despite a few notable anomalies (which you’ll find below), right now is an excellent time to buy vintage, neo-vintage and, especially, recent-model pre-owned AAA 2024 fake Rolex sports watches. Using Chrono 24’s ChronoPulse watch market index to gain better insight, we are seeing anecdotal remarks from across the wwatch world confirmed by data. Even in the past month alone (August of 2024), the prices have continued on a steady fall.

We spoke with Eric Wind of Wind Vintage to get his feel for the current Rolex market, and he told us that, “People don’t realize they can suddenly go buy modern top Rolex replica watches for less than it would cost at retail. There was all this hysteria, and so that surprises people. Especially Subs and Sea-Dwellers, those are way down.”

If you know which references to look for and how to assess condition, you can walk away with a Rolex Submariner, GMT-Master, Explorer II, or Oyster Perpetual 41 for far less than you would have just a couple years ago—in some cases, thousands less. A fair warning from Eric Wind: “Even a very recent Rolex needs to be checked out before you go swimming with it. People assume that because it’s a modern Rolex, it’ll be waterproof, but you need to get it checked out.” His point is well taken, as rubber gaskets can wear out, and you can’t be sure whether the previous owner didn’t overwork the crown, or whether the best Rolex copy watches was recently serviced.

With warnings and caveats in place, let’s get into this buyer’s market.

Neo-Vintage and Current Model Subs

The five-digit 1:1 wholesale Rolex Submariner replica watches (1980-2000s) are very tasty in style due to the aluminum bezel inserts—and if they’re dated before 1984-ish, you’ll get matte dials with painted markers for full-on vintage vibes (post-1983 Subs feature gloss dials with white gold marker surrounds). To get a sense of where the five-digit Subs are headed, ChronoPulse reports that the Submariner reference 16610 (which is post-1984 with glossy dial, gold indices, and caliber 3135) is down by about 10 percent over the last 12 months, putting many examples well below $10,000. We’ve even seen a few decent examples below $8,000. You can expect to pay more for 16800s with matte dials, however, as they’re more “vintage.”

If you’re interested in the modern six-digit references with the Cerachom (ceramic) bezel inserts and updated movements, you’ll be pleased to learn that the cheap fake Rolex Submariner reference 124060 watches (the current no-date version released in 2020) is down by abour 5 percent percent over the past year, according to the ChronoPulse Index. If you want a date complication, the current reference 126610LN is down by four percent. This sets these desirable models right around retail prices (plus tax). This is a common benchmark for used pricing. The 126610 with date can cost right around $13,000 with box and papers as of this writing, and the 124060 no-date model can be had for just over $10,000.

Maybe scoring a sub at retail isn’t quite the great deal is seemed just a few years ago.

Surprisingly, the all-green “Hulk” reference 116610 of 2010—which was once downright scarce a few years ago—just shot down, as well. During the pandemic you’d be paying over $26,000 for a Hulk, but now they’re available for below $17,000. Shocking, really.

True Vintage Submariners

Though ChronoPulse doesn’t report data on the four-digit references (World War II to ~1979), we’d recommend looking at the revered 1680 Swiss movements Rolex Submariner replica watches with date, which Rolex produced with “SUBMARINER” written in either red text or white. The revered “Red Sub” always costs more. We’re seeing good looking 1680s with white text down around $14,000, while Red Subs closer to $20,000 and up. A caveat: Vintage prices tend to operate on their own calculus, as trends (and thus supply), as well as condition, drive that market in less predictable ways. In short, you’ll see a very wide variation in pricing, though the trend is generally down.

The Five-Digit GMT-Master II Is Looking Reasonable (Again)

The coveted China top fake Rolex GMT-Master II models are also down, but the changes are less drastic than with the Subs. Discontinued models like the steel reference 126710LN “Pepsi” on Jubilee bracelet appears to be holdin steady, but five-digit reference 16710 Pepsi GMT-Master II models are down by over seven percent over past 12 months. This means you’ll pay under $10,000 for a nice GMT Master II. That’s way down, and given the rising prices of Rolex super clone watches for sale generally, not a horrible deal at all.

Condition of five-digit GMT-Master II references is especially influential on pricing. The fading of the bezel insert tends to send some collectors head-over-heals if it’s especially ghosted (sun bleached), while excessive case polishing (which was common in the five-digit era) will drive prices downward. All this to say, there’s a wide range of pricing for GMT-Master II references, but if you’re looking for a very cool watch to wear every day, a relatively clean one can be had under $10,000.

Explorer II Prices Falling

If there’s a collector’s Rolex, it is the 40 mm Swiss made replica Rolex Explorer II 16570 watches, especially with a “polar” (white) dial. These have always been the less desirable GMTs from Rolex, but they’re very popular with watch enthusiasts, partly because they were reasonably priced. As it turns out, the 40 mm 16570 with a black dial is down over the past year, but fluctuates a bit more than other models (likely due to recent journalism on the 16570, as well as growing demand for smaller watches). Meanwhile the six-digit 42 mm 226570 is also significantly in the same time period.

You can always expect to pay more for white dials than black ones with Explorer II references, but the prices are really down: Around $8000 for a black dial, and as little as $8500 for a white dial as of this writing. As always, condition, service history and box and papers will be important.

Big Datejusts Down, Little Datejusts Up

A 41 mm Rolex Datejust copy watches UK for sale used to be a really big deal to own, but tastes have decidedly changed toward smaller watches, and even toward small dress watches. We are fairly confident that these trends have driven prices for the 41 mm Datejust down a full 14 percent over the past year, which really is a stunning result. Meanwhile, the 36 mm Datejust is up by 55 over 12 months, and continues to spike. Who would have guessed this?

I think the picture we’re painting, supported by data, is relatively clear: This is a Rolex buyer’s market, with some exceptions for specific models.

As with buying any pre-owned watch: Do your research, find a great example, and take note of whether you’re looking at an anomaly that shot up in price, or if you’re getting a good deal because that model’s price has fallen. This article will be a straightforward look at the retail prices on January 1st, 2023, versus the current retail prices on January 1st, 2024. A fun detail is that Rolex originally communicated the price of the platinum Daytona ref. 126506 as “available on request.” After the brand updated its website, the €77,700 list price became visible and went up to €79,200 in 2024. The same goes for the stunning white gold Daytona 24 Hours of Le Mans ref. 126529LN, although we know that its price jumped up from €51,300 just a couple of days ago to €53,400, which is a 4% increase.

Rolex Submariner Fake Watches

Let’s move on to the price increases for the Swiss movements replica Rolex Submariner watches. We’ll start with the stainless steel Submariner ref. 124060, which kicked off last year at €9,050. The new price of the iconic diver is set at €9,500, which is a 5% increase.

The Submariner Date ref. 126610LN started 2023 with a price of €10,200 and is now €10,700. If you want the ref. 126610LV with the green bezel insert, the price was €10,700 and is now €11,200. Both are increases within 5%. The Rolesor variations, ref. 126613LB and 126613LN, were €15,500 at the start of 2023 and will set you back €16,350 as of this year. That is an increase of 5.4%.

Moving on to the full precious metal variations of the Submariner, we see a similar trend. The yellow gold ref. 126618LN and 126618LB models saw a price increase from €38,600 to €40,400. Lastly, the beautiful white gold ref. 126619LB — a personal favorite — was €41,600 when 2023 started and is now €43,500. Both increases are between 4.5 and 5%, in line with the Daytona increases.

Replica Rolex Day-Date 36 and 40 Watches

Moving on to the 2024 China fake Rolex Day-Date watches, if you wanted a 40mm yellow gold ref. 228238 a year ago, you would have paid €38,200. The new price has been set at €40,100, which is an increase of 5%. The smaller 36mm Day-Date ref. 128238 — the one I would pick — went up from €34,700 in January of last year to €36,500 in 2024. If you prefer your Day Date 40 in Everose or white gold (ref. 228235 and 228239, respectively), you must pay €43,200 now compared to €41,100 at this time last year. These updated prices also translate to an increase of roughly 5%.

Twelve months ago, the list price was €10,800, which has now been updated to €11,350. The much-debated Destro “Sprite” ref. 126720VTNR saw a price increase from €11,100 to €11,850. How about the wonderful two-tone Rolesor GMT-Master II ref. 126713GRNR, which was introduced during Watches and Wonders? Its communicated list price back then was €16,450 and has now gone up to €17,350, which equals an increase of 5.4%. The Rolesor “Root Beer” ref. 126711CHNR on the Oyster bracelet went up in price from €16,000 in January 2023 to €17,000 a year later. That is an increase of 6.25%

Ref. 126718GRNR, the stunning full-gold GMT-Master II with the black and gray bezel insert that came out last year, saw its price increase from €38,800 to €40,400 in 2024, an increase of 4.1%.

Rolex Explorer and Explorer II Fake Watches

The popular Swiss made fake Rolex Explorer 36 ref. 124270 watches had a list price of €7,150 a year ago and can be yours today for €7,450. The bigger 40mm ref. 224270 was introduced during Watches and Wonders last year for €7,650 and now has a list price of €7,900. Both increases are on the lower side of all increases at 4.1% and 3.2%, respectively. The 36mm two-tone ref. 124273 was available for €11,650 in January 2023 and now goes for €12,300. Once again, the two-tone variant gets a steeper price increase at 5.5%.

Moving on to the Explorer II ref. 226570 with a black or white dial. Last January, Rolex increased the price for both to €9,550. This year, both Rolex replica watches for men broke the €10K barrier with a list price of €10,050. It’s a price increase of 5.2% for the current Explorer II.

The Rolesor 40mm ref. 126333 in steel and yellow gold was available at the start of last year for €14,200. The new price is set at €15,050, a 5.9% increase. Once again, the two-tone models have become relatively more expensive than their stainless steel counterparts.

This article only covers a selection of the available Rolex models. However, it’s safe to say that the price increases for January 2024 are roughly between 4% and 6%. Compared to previous years, these increases are not quite as steep. In 2022 and 2023, we saw more significant price increases, and as most of you know, the prices were also adjusted during 2023. Therefore, it is good to see that Rolex decided not to increase them by double digits again. Another quick takeaway is that the Rolesor models got the biggest price increases. It seems unbelievable that this resulted from the increased popularity of two-tone best quality Rolex replica watches, but that could be the case, and if so, I’m all for it. Once in a while on the collector forums, a question is posed: is there anyone in the collector community who has never, ever, owned a Rolex?

As a general rule, respondents to these queries tend to express disbelief that such a creature could possibly exist given the quality and ubiquity of the perfect Rolex replica watches.

Well, folks, I’m here to tell you that such people do exist and that I’m one of them. And to be honest, when I suggested this article topic to Elizabeth, one reason that I did so was that I was pretty mystified about it myself: how could it be?

How it (didn’t) happen

In the beginning: The simplest explanations for why I didn’t start early with luxury UK Rolex fake watches are simple: money and time. The first time I encountered the brand was during the Lucerne stop of a hard-earned student trip (more on this in an upcoming article).

I had $45 in spending money. One of my roommates had several hundred bucks that he promptly spent on what he described as, “The watch my Dad says is the best in the world.”

For me, it was too soon and too much. And even then, my spidey-sense suggested to me that my friend’s Dad’s absolute certainty and his son’s resulting zeal might possibly be misplaced.

Other gateway drugs: Fast forward about six years of schooling, 15 years of 80-hour workweeks, and an increasing fascination with timekeeping. When I did turn to top replica Rolex watches in a serious way, my attention was drawn to other brands.

Omega played a role (and to some extent filled the collection “spots” that might otherwise have been filled with Rolexes), but the big hitter for me was Jaeger-LeCoultre, starting with a steel Reverso Duoface and going from there.

It might actually be interesting to poll collectors and see whether there are two basic types: those who started and stayed with, Jaeger-LeCoultre and those who followed the Rolex trail.

Now that I consider it, perhaps there are (now) Panerai and Omega Speedmaster branches to the tree as well; but that’s also a topic for another day!

Reverse snobbery: For a while, I had a pretty active disdain for Rolex, for what I now realize were three main reasons.

First, whether it’s 1:1 Rolex copy watches, cars, or consumer electronics, I have a low tolerance for fan boys, those uncritical sorts who believe that every single feature of their favored brand is the best and also feel that is critical that you believe it, too.

For instance, at this point I’ve read way too many online threads in which Rolex’ use of 904L stainless steel is put forward as proof of the pitiful weakness of all other brands. What I came to believe was that any brand that needed such unthinking support might not be worthy of mine.

The second reason was that I thought I had found “better” solutions than Rolex for my needs; for example, my Vacheron Constantin Overseas in the sports watch category.

Whether it was the Overseas or other watches like the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms with its wonderful and robust X-71 bracelet, I really didn’t see Swiss movements Rolex replica watches as world-beaters in their categories.

Finally, there’s the position of Rolex as one of the world’s leading, if not the leading, mass luxury brand. If you know me, you know that I’m not innately drawn to “mass” anything, even in luxury categories; part of the appeal for me is being a bit off the beaten path.

That whole vintage thing: For the record, I loved Paul Newman. Great actor, great race driver, great (it is reported) husband, great actor. Man’s man, philanthropist.

And, of course, wearer of Rolex, including what is popularly called the “Paul Newman” Daytona.

A few months ago, it finally happened: I got “the call” from my Rolex dealer that I could pick up one of the store’s very last perfect replica Rolex Daytona 116500LN watches with a white dial. Anyway, for obvious reasons, I consider myself very lucky to have received the outgoing model shortly before its official discontinuation. For the sake of starting the article on a positive note (but to also stay true to the title of the 1966 western starring Clint Eastwood), let’s start with the good. It will come as no surprise to you that this section is the easiest to write as this white-dial high quality Rolex Daytona replica watches in steel truly is, hype aside, a great watch. I will admit that I was quite excited when I finally got notified that I could pick it up. However, after wearing the watch for a few hours, that initial excitement of finally owning a Daytona subsided remarkably quickly. With my 16.5cm wrist size, the Daytona’s 38.5mm case diameter (how Rolex gets away with calling it 40mm is quite baffling!) and 12mm thickness hit the sweet spot. The case is different from many other iconic references within Rolex’s Professional lineup. The rounded, polished case more closely resembles that of a Datejust, Day-Date, or Sky-Dweller than that of a more brutalist Submariner, GMT-Master II, or Explorer II.

Dial-side delights

Moving on to the dial, I very much enjoy how the colors create an optical illusion that the watch is larger than it is. This becomes even more noticeable when it’s next to a black-dial model. While the predecessor, ref. 116520, is a good-looking watch as well, to me, the white and silver dial looked a bit “soft”.

Additionally, the clasp features an Easylink extension. This proved to be a very welcome feature during the blisteringly hot, humid days this past summer. I would adjust the bracelet multiple times a day, especially when entering and leaving air-conditioned environments.

Rolex Daytona 116500LN — The bad

What could one consider “bad” about one of the most coveted and iconic Swiss made Rolex super clone watches in the industry? Well, as fine of a watch as the Rolex Daytona is, it does have some shortcomings that I can’t neglect to mention. To start, let’s talk about the obscure sub-dial placement. For the record, I don’t mind non-centered sub-dials in general. Looking at two-register chronographs, the lower sub-dial placement of the Patek Philippe 5172 creates a beautiful balance with the “Patek Philippe Geneve” text at 12 o’clock. Ditto for the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 chronograph.

On the Daytona, however, there’s something that looks slightly off. The sub-dials are only very slightly raised, which almost makes it seem as if the positioning was a compromise. Luckily, this doesn’t bother me as much as it does some, but I do not understand why Rolex made this design choice when designing the 4130 caliber in this reference. Rolex’s first automatic chronograph, the online replica Rolex Daytona ref. 16520 watches, famously used a modified Zenith El Primero movement. On that reference, the sub-dials were dead center, which, from a design standpoint, looks superior to me.

A matter of price

My next point is perhaps a little controversial, and many will probably disagree with me (I’m happy to be roasted down below!), but we have to talk about the price. But if we’re comparing the Daytona to other iconic chronographs by different brands, it is superlatively (I couldn’t resist) expensive.

At CHF 14,100 for this outgoing model (CHF 14,300 for the successor), it did sting a little. Sure, it trades for more on the street, but if I decide to keep it for good, that money won’t do much for me. I still paid the full retail price. In comparison, the current Omega Speedmaster Professional (Hesalite) and Breitling Navitimer 43 cost CHF 6,600 and CHF 8,750, respectively. In my opinion, these represent greater value.

On the pushers

I’ll be honest that I have mixed feelings on the final point — the screw-down pushers. Like many of you here, I am a nut for chronographs. You can read an article I wrote about why I think that chronographs are the best subcategory of cheap Rolex fake watches here. Not only do I love the look of them, but I’m also constantly using the chronograph function. Timing things using the watch I’m wearing has become a bit of a habit. I’ll use it for measuring all kinds of things — cooking, the length of a drive or a hike, and my children’s screen time, just to mention a few.

Having to unscrew the pushers to use the chronograph caught me off guard several times, especially when I don’t have both hands available, like when I’m riding my motorcycle. I’m aware that I’m sounding nitpicky, but we’re buying little mechanical objects for large amounts of money. Is it unreasonable to be a bit nitpicky? I’m on the fence about just always leaving them unscrewed as that defeats the purpose of the screw-down feature. Rolex states the watch is still water resistant if the pushers are unscrewed and that having them screwed down is to prevent accidental use while the luxury Rolex replica watches is submerged. I will say that I appreciate the idea of screwing them down and do also enjoy the look.

Owning a Rolex Daytona — The ugly

To clarify, I’m using “the ugly” to sum up points that have nothing to do with the physical watch but about owning it instead. I bought this watch knowing that I would keep it as I had tried it on several times before, so none of “the ugly” caught me off guard per se. But I must mention that this is the only watch I’ve owned that causes people on the street or in various establishments to directly ask me how much I paid and if I would sell it. I’ve only owned it for a few months, but I’ve been wearing it nonstop. It has already happened a few times in person and many times on watch-related social media. It shows that the watch stands out, which means I will have to consider where and when I plan to wear it.

Other frequently asked questions are the classic, “Where did you get it?” “How long did you wait?” and “What was your purchase history?” If I’ve never met the person before, I really don’t feel like answering those questions. They are, however, the result of the Daytona’s hype and market value versus retail value (although, thankfully, this has calmed down compared to a few years ago). You’ve heard my thoughts on the high retail price, so you won’t be surprised that I’m throwing the Swiss online fake Rolex Daytona watches‘ market value into “the ugly” section too.
